The Great Copywriting Reset [Part 1]


Between last Wednesday and Thursday, I spent 12 hours on Zoom.

The reason:

The Great Copywriting Reset

Organised by my mentor, Kevin Rogers.

(I also had a short feature as a guest expert during the event, which has to be one of the many highlights of my copywriting career so far.)

As you can imagine, by the end of the two 6-hour sessions, I was a frazzled wreck.

My eyes were bleary from hours of screen time, my back was hunched and I could barely speak in tangible sentences.

But after taking some time to unwind this weekend, I’m back and more energised than ever.

Because the event confirmed some major thoughts I’ve been having over the past year.

And in today’s email, I’m going to share the first of these thoughts (perhaps the most important):

[Part 1] The impact of compounding

The premise is pretty basic.

Essentially, the top businesses (and copywriters) are those who publish the most content.

Such as:

  • Eddie Shleyner whose 10+ years of blogging resulted in his highly-revered book, Very Good Copy
  • Chris Orzechowski who now runs a 7-figure copywriting business because he made the decision to “pay himself first” and write emails every day to his list
  • Daniel Throssell who, after also deciding to write to his list every day, paid his mortgage off with a 4-day affiliate promotion which generated 200K in revenue 👀
  • …and so on

By creating more content, the law of averages comes into play.

Sure, you might create mediocre content along the way…

But you also have a greater chance of creating more above-average content. Maybe even some truly exceptional pieces.

And that content can be repurposed into enduring assets.

(I do the same for my clients. When I write an email that really resonates and makes the cash register ring, I mark it for possible inclusion in automated sequences/future launches. Or suggest that it can be repurposed into content for social media.)

Because the more assets you create for your business, the more stable it becomes. You’re creating a “moat” for your business, ensuring that it weathers any unforeseen storms.

With this in mind, I want to announce something that I’ve been planning for some time…

Do copywriters have a charmed life? After all, there’s only so many hours that anyone can engage in a creative act per day. Which means most of us can only spend 3-5 hours a day writing before we start seeing diminishing returns. But appearances can be very deceiving. On Tuesday and Thursday mornings, I do Pilates in an attempt to fix my seemingly-chronic back issues. As well as helping my back issues, I find the class pretty calming. I usually spend the next few hours in my Zen happy place. After yesterday’s class, I had to make quick stop in the supermarket before going back to my apartment.
